Jin Sarker has been accused of abusing her son by forcing him to eat pork, according to a statement on the Governing Body of the Muslim Association of the United States (MAUUS), which seeks to uphold Islamic values. Sarker, according to the organization, is a member of the MAUUS.
A statement on the Islamic Society of North America’s website makes reference to Sarker when it states: “During Ramadan, MSA members engage in “unwarranted dietary restrictions” and violate the Muslim sharia law prohibiting “dishonor of women,” “honor killings,” and “cruelty of women.” Those members are also guilty of “waging a “war on Islam,” which includes the promotion of the use of alcohol or “bollywood.” When there is tension within the Muslim community regarding appropriate dietary restrictions and practices, the MSA should be part of the solution.”
Sarker said the statements made on the MAUUS website and elsewhere are repulsive.
“The fact that some of these are posted publicly on a hate-mongering website such as that of the Islamic Society of North America is outrageous,” Sarker told the News. “They are despicable crimes, and they have been perpetrated by someone who wants to silence Muslims. This is a very serious issue, and the fact that they are posted on an Islamic website at all is very upsetting to me.”
He said the Islamophobic statements posted on the website are an insult to Muslims.
“These statements are not even close to reality,” Sarker said. “And by the way, nobody is forcing you to eat pork. Many Muslims eat pork. It is not banned by Islam. The fact that some Muslims who are not Muslim are expressing their own views is outrageous.”
Sarker also dismissed the concerns raised by the group over animal abuse, saying the MAUUS does not encourage it.
“We don’t do any sort of animal-testing or animal-feeding practices for people in our mosque or in our worship spaces,” he said. “We’ve seen no incidents where pigs, chickens, or other animals have been harmed.”
Sarker said he will be speaking to police. Asked if he felt comfortable speaking in detail about the alleged attack, he said it would be inappropriate since he has “a lot of information on my end.” He said he could not reveal the names of the alleged assailants because
